South Africa is a true force to be reckoned with. Comprised of deserts, subtropical forests, grasslands, wetlands, bush, mountains and escarpments, this beautiful country leaves nothing to be desired.
How much should you budget for traveling within South Africa? Budget Your Trip recommends that you leave yourself roughly $50 (CAD) per person/day if you are looking for a more budget conscious experience and roughly $125 (CAD) if you don't mind the occasional splurge. Click the link above for a more thorough breakdown of expenses.
While in South Africa, don't forget to take a trek to Table Mountain —one of the oldest mountains in the world. There you will find over 2,200 plant species, 70% of which are native only to South Africa. The Western Cape (Karoo region specifically) is an archeologist's dream! Filled with some of the earliest and most intact dinosaur fossils in the world, it would be a shame to miss.
Are you curious about human origins? Look no further than South Africa's Cradle of Humankind. It is there, in the Sterkfontein Caves, where the oldest human remains were found, some dating as far back as 4.5 million years ago! While in South Africa, don't forget to take a ride down Route 62 —the longest wine route in the world. You will be amazed at the vast quantity of lush vines growing along this 850km expanse.

Destination #2: Lisbon, Portugal

When you're there, you simply must stay at the stylish Alfama with Private Patio apartment. For $143 a night you get to experience all that Old City Portugal has to offer, including the bright colours and funky architecture designs the European city is known for. Fall in love with this apartments modern furnishings, vaulted ceilings and romantic private patio!

Cross this beautiful European city off of your bucket list. Budget Your Trip suggests allocating $60 per person/per day when travelling on a budget or $148 per person/per day for a more mid-range trip.
As one of the oldest cities in the world (the oldest in Western Europe), Lisbon has much to offer its travelers. From the Vasco da Gama Bridge (longest bridge in Europe) to the Tagus Is Iberia (largest river in Portugal), to the best Old World wines —you just can't go wrong. Love shopping or simply hopping from café to restaurant, giving your taste buds a treat? The Baixa district has what you need. For a highly unique experience, we recommend ascending the Ascensor de Santa Justa (street elevator). It connects Baixa to the higher Chiado district.
Are you a European football fan? Visit one of the largest football venues in all of Europe — the Stadium of Light. More into the arts scene? We recommend a guided graffiti tour through Lisbon.
We love Portugal so much we have travelled there over 5 times. Here is a peek into the beautiful country.

While in Costa Rica, set your sights on Bahia Ballena (Whale Bay), where you can whale watch the day away. Fun fact: Whale Bay is shaped like the tail of the majestic creature it derives its name from. Make sure you don't forget to see one of Costa Rica's 5 active volcanoes or several of their over 100 protected areas!
This was our favourite beach in Costa Rica where we could watch the skilled surfers catch major waves and similtaniously see cute baby turtles waddle into the ocean.
