Family is everything; but when you think of what encompasses your family and your home, what do you think of? Perhaps you think of a silly spouse playfully barking orders, or a couple of energetic kids running rampant, but what about your beloved furry friends? They are the brick and mortar that hold your home together.
You love your pets and want the best for them, but you also want a beautiful, presentable home for your friends and family to enjoy. We feel you. That's why we've compiled a helpful pet-friendly furniture style guide to give you the best of both worlds!
Mudroom: A Pets Playground
Scout and Nibble Instagram
Mudrooms are great if you're an avid gardener or have some particularly boisterous children; but oftentimes, homeowners don't know what to do with them. After all, they're traditionally used as dumping spots for removing outside dirt and debris.
Pets love dirt as much as the next wild child, so mudrooms make the perfect pet havens. Transform your mudroom into a pet playground by installing a stylish tile rinsing station, like the one featured above. Add bins, storage shelves, water and food dishes, and perhaps a bed so they can feel right at home.
Adorable Food Bins
Your pets have a pretty boring diet by human standards. Why not spruce it up by putting it in something pretty to look at? These adorable food and treat bins are not only functional, they are statement pieces in their own right.
Multi-functional Pet Kennel
We all know how important maximizing space is, especially in a small home. These duel-purpose console tables make achieving this goal so much easier. Tuck your pet beds under one of these stunning tables and you won't have to worry about tripping over your pooches in the middle of the night!
Furniture Upholstery Made Smart
White Dahlia Design
Leather often comes to mind when you think of pet enduring upholstery because it is durable and allows pet fur to slide right off but dark coloured leathers shows all the pet hair. Instead, we would recommend choosing high performance fabrics like those from the Decor-rest brand. You could also try Crypton. It is a synthetic microfibre fabric that can withstand the test of time! Loosely woven fabrics such as wool, and cheap suede are a straight no-no. They tug and stain easily. If you love the texture of suede or velvet, we recommend investing in a heavy-grade microfibre version.
When choosing the sofa fabric, we recommend matching your couch to your dogs fur colour and avoiding light fabrics as much as possible. That way, if anything does cling, it is not as visible. Another great tip is to buy couches with zippers so that you can remove them and pop them in the wash.
